Inc. Magazine names Nashville-based Medical Direct Club among nation's fastest growing private companies

09/20/2013 | 10:41am EDT

Medical Direct Club (MDC), a provider of mail-order urological supplies, has been named to Inc. Magazine's 5000 List of Fastest Growing Private Companies in the nation.

Medical Direct Club is ranked No. 461 out of 5,000 U.S.-based, privately held for profit businesses reviewed by Inc. Magazine for its annual list of the nation's fastest growing companies. Since its founding in 2009, Medical Direct Club has sold more than 20 million catheters, achieved a 1,000 percent three-year growth rate, and grown from four to 50 employees.

Among the fastest growing companies, MDC ranks No. 9 in Tennessee and No. 36 in the health care industry, according to Inc. Magazine.

Medical Direct Club is the third largest supplier of urology products in the United States, according to published billings by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

"We are thrilled to see our success recognized by Inc. Magazine as one of the fastest growing companies in the country," said founder and CEO Bradford Gulmi. "Our strategy has been to drive growth of the disposable catheter market by excelling at customer service and satisfaction. We are continuing to achieve dramatic growth because of our ability to execute a plan that is based on being the most reliable source for patients and physicians."

Before 2008, Medicare coverage limits resulted in many patients washing and re-using catheters. Since then, Medicare has expanded coverage so that patients can receive up to 200 catheters per month.

Medical Direct Club provides direct-to-consumer delivery of urological products, primarily catheters. Providing patients with sterile, disposable catheters and assisting physician-prescribed care can eliminate urinary tract, bladder, kidney and uterus infection that produces painful health complications, including hospitalization and in some cases death.

"Changing patient behavior is critical to not only lower health care costs associated with re-using catheters but also to improve health and quality of life," said Gulmi. "Our marketing reaches a critical forgotten population that is outside the umbrella of Medicare's traditional educational reach."

In addition to mailing catheters free of shipping charges, MDC creates individualized service programs for members and their physicians to ensure quality and satisfaction.
