Shares of industrial and transportation companies ticked up as traders piled into bets that recent fears about the Omicron variant of Covid-19 and inflation were overblown.

"Some production constraints will remain well into 2022, but will eventually be resolved, enabling economies to revert to trend growth rates without generating higher inflation," forecast strategists at money manager BNP Paribas Asset Management said in a note to clients.

Frank Appel will step down as chief executive of DHL parent Deutsche Post in 2023, the shipping and mail service said, to be replaced by longtime executive Tobias Meyer.
