Shares of industrial and transportation companies rose as the prospects of a vaccine gave a lift to aerospace companies.

Shares of General Electric, Honeywell International and Boeing all rallied. Boeing shares rose despite a Wall Street Journal report that U.S. regulators were preparing new to slap the jet maker with new penalties because of safety violations, even as its 737MAX progresses through testing programs ahead of a relaunch.

Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas President Robert Kaplan said easing terms for access to some of the central bank's emergency lending facilities appears be a good idea as the economy faces a particularly challenging period in its coronavirus pandemic recovery efforts, as reported earlier.
