Producers of metals and other raw materials fell after warnings from the Federal Reserve that the Covid-19 pandemic remained a threat to the economic outlook.

Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell warned that it remained unclear what the implications of the Delta variant of Covid-19 would be for growth.

BHP Group shares rose in London after the world's largest miner by production confirmed the sale of its oil-and-gas unit to Australia's Woodside Petroleum and a $5.7 billion investment in a potash mine in Canada, as it shifts strategy in preparation for a low-carbon world.

Teck Resources' Highland Valley operations shutdown poses a risk to copper production and short-terms earnings potential, said analysts at brokerage CIBC.
