Producers of metals and other raw materials rose as the Federal Reserve gave no indication of plans to tame inflation by hiking interest rates.

Fed Chairman Jerome Powell said he continued to believe that the current bout of inflation was largely a transitory phenomenon, a side effect of the economic recovery from the pandemic. The central bank did say it will commence a tapering of bond purchases.

Anglo American said Chief Executive Mark Cutifani would retire next year, ending a near-decadelong tenure heading up one of the largest global miners.

BHP Group extended the deadline on its takeover offer for Noront Resources, saying it has entered talks with shareholder and rival suitor Wyloo Metals over its stake.
