At the tenth International Maritime Defence Show IMDS-2021 which opened in Saint-Petersburg on July 23 United Engine Corporation of Rostec is presenting its achievements in gas-turbine engine building.

'The product line of UEC comprises marine gas turbine engines with a capacity of 4.4 to 20.2 MW, ship gas turbine and diesel-gas turbine units as well as a ship gas turbine electric power generator. The range of UEC's marine engines and units meets mid-term fleet needs for all ships and vessels in operation, under construction and for advanced ones,' points out Deputy General Director of UEC-Saturn Viktor Polyakov.

UEC is demonstrating the four exhibits to visitors of IMDS-2021: mockups of the 8-MW ship gas turbine electric power generator SGTG-8, the marine gas turbine engines with a capacity of 10MW 70FRU and 20 MW M90FR along with a model of the multipurpose Fedor Ushakov marine assembly and testing facility.

The marine gas turbine engine M90FR is used in the diesel-gas turbine unit (DGTU) M55R designed as the main powerplant of frigates within project 22350. In 2020 UEC delivered two first DGTU's M55R for frigate Admiral Golovko to shipyard Severnaya Verf. To date, the testing of the third frigate has been completed successfully, the fourth DGTU for the main powerplant of Admiral of the Soviet Union Issakov is under test. Moreover, UEC has developed a modification of the M90RF engine for an advanced corvette. Also, options for creating a 25 MW engine based on M90FR are being considered.

Following the development of the marine gas turbine engine M70FRU, the sets of design and production engineering documents have been assigned character 'O1', which means that the engine of this type is ready for serial production. M70FRU can be used as a sustained motor and a booster in main powerplants of ships, including landing air-cushion ships, on drilling rigs and in port infrastructure. There are two modifications created on the basis of this engine: M70FRU-2 and M70FRU-R.

Under government contracts with the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia UEC has built the dual-fuel (gas / diesel) gas turbine engine E70/8RD and on its basis - the marine gas turbine electric power generator SGTG-8. The engine and the gas turbine power generator have a better fuel efficiency in their output rating class. The equipment complies with the requirements of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping and can be used in civil boats and marine facilities.

The Fedor Ushakov marine assembly and testing facility is unique for Russia and a key element of the development, production and repair of marine gas turbine engines and units. In 2017, there were the first interdepartmental tests of the engine M70FRU-2 and the main turbine set M35R-1 as well as qualification tests of the engine M90FR. The year 2020 is notable for the successful completion of qualification tests of the diesel-gas turbine unit M55R. The facility makes it possible to conduct all kinds of tests for marine GTE and GTU with the simulation of real operating conditions.
