OECD to launch first PISA evaluation of students’ capacity to live in an interconnected world on Thursday 22 October 2020

19/10/2020 - Today's students live in an interconnected, diverse and rapidly changing world. In this complex environment, a student's ability to understand the world and appreciate the multiple different perspectives they are likely to encounter is key to their success.

A new OECD PISA report, Are Students Ready to Thrive in an Interconnected World?, reveals the findings of the first evaluation of students' capacity to live in an interconnected world. The assessment focused on students' knowledge of issues of local and global significance, including public health, economic and environmental issues, as well as their intercultural knowledge, skills and attitudes. Students from 27 countries and economies took the test. Students, teachers, parents and school principals from around 65 countries and economies completed the questionnaire (see list below).

The report will be released at 11.00 CEST/09.00 GMT on Thursday 22 October.

Andreas Schleicher, OECD Director for Education and Skills, will host a pre-launch public webinar to discuss the themes and aims of the assessment on Tuesday 20 October at 17.30 CEST. This event is open to journalists: to register. On Thursday 22 October, the findings will be discussed during a public webinar hosted by AFS Intercultural Programs.
