05/12/2021 | 12:52pm EDT

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spoke by phone with President Vladimir Putin of Russia.

The developments occurring in Palestine and the shipment of Sputnik V vaccine to Turkey were discussed during the call.

Stating that Turkey had responded in the strongest manner to the attacks Israel carried out recklessly against Al-Quds, Gaza, Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Palestinians, President Erdoğan said the international community should also give a strong and deterrent lesson to Israel, and that they continued their initiatives at every level to that end.

Underscoring that the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs' statement on Palestine, which highlighted the United Nations' parameters and the two-state solution, was important, President Erdoğan stressed showing that Turkey and Russia were of the same opinion on the developments taking place in Palestine presented a significant message.

President Erdoğan pointed out that it was important that the United Nations Security Council intervened in the matter before the crisis further worsened, and that the Council should convey determined and clear messages to Israel on halting its attacks.

Underlining that works on the idea of sending an international protection force to the region in order to protect the Palestinian civilians should also be carried out, President Erdoğan expressed his belief that Turkey and Russia would display close cooperation on all these issues at the United Nations.

President Putin of Russia, for his part, congratulated the Turkish people on Eid al-Fitr and wished them health and happiness.
