Renault sees bigger hit on chip drought: sources

Renault will make at least at least 300,000 fewer vehicles this year due to the global chip shortage.

And the shortfall could even hit 400,000.

That's according to Reuters sources.

If confirmed, it would be a much bigger hit than the French firm initially expected.

Back in September it forecast a loss of about 220,000 units.

Industry bodies say the chip drought has hit at the worst possible time.

Car makers were already battling with health crisis disruptions, and the massive shift to electric vehicles.

Over the summer Renault said EVs would account for 90% of its sales by 2030.

But parts shortages have forced manufacturers around the world to slow or even suspend production.

The shortfall in semiconductor supplies is now widely expected to last into next year.
