Shares of technology companies fell sharply after growth warnings from two major exponents of the digital economy.
Shares of vacation-rental platform Airbnb plunged after the short-term rental platform warned of "some signs of slowing demand from U.S. guests," as travelers hold off on booking overnight stays for later in the year and temper their spending elsewhere.
Shares of Lyft slid after the ride-hailing company reported a surprise profit in the second quarter.
Nvidia shares continued their recent retreat even after the chip maker's partners said a reported delay in next-generation processor shipments shouldn't be a major issue. Shares of Nvidia are more than 30% below their July highs, but remain more than double as valuable as they were at the start of the year.
