Shares of technology companies fell as a long run-up in mega-cap tech stocks stalled ahead of a key earnings report.

Shares of Nvidia, the maker of high-performance chips that power artificial-intelligence applications, slipped after its earnings growth was not quite as robust as some investors had predicted.

Baidu shares rose after the Chinese Internet conglomerate said third-quarter revenue rose 6% from a year earlier, thanks to growth in online-marketing services and streaming services.

Blackstone is in advanced talks to buy Civica in a deal valuing the U.K.-based software developer at close to $2.5 billion including debt, The Wall Street Journal reported.
