Tesla keeps rising, Alstom with Bombardier…

The B737 MAX is not ready to fly, Tesla reaches new heights, Alstom and Bombardier are rumored to be wanting to merge.

Earnings season. Johnson & Johnson, Abbott, ASML, Texas Instruments, Hyundai Motor, Baker Hughes, Antofagasta, Burberry, Barry Callebaut, Seb, Elior

An obvious fact. Boeing doesn't expect the B737MAX to return to service until mid-2020. The stock felt the blow yesterday, dropping 3.3% at closing, after having already lost 2.4% the day before and 14% over a year. "This updated estimate is based on the experience we have gained so far in the certification process," said the manufacturer, to whom the deal will cost billions of dollars.

Even higher. Tesla passes the $100 billion capitalization milestone. New Street Research helped push the stock up to USD 555, setting its price target at USD 800. The stock gained 81% in one year.

Warm and lukewarm. ASML is going to buy back €6 billion worth of shares over 3 years. The Dutchman announced this morning that his Q1 forecasts are a little tighter than expected, on the sidelines of the announcement of his 2019 results. The dividend is slightly higher than expected.

Rumor has it. Alstom is discussing a rapprochement with Bombardier, according to information obtained by Bloomberg, after being prevented from merging with Siemens' transport division. The Canadian group is in trouble because of too much debt. An emblematic company, Bombardier has suffered numerous setbacks in recent years, which have led it to separate from its commercial aviation division (in favor of Airbus). On January 16, the share price collapsed by 32% after some worrying figures. This is not the first time such a marriage has been envisaged.

Never two without three. Daimler issued its third warning on the 2019 financial results at midday. The cost of the dieselgate, investments in the electric vehicle and production worries have led the manufacturer to revise its 2019 figures downwards.

In other news. Saudi Arabia is said to have hacked Jeff Bezos' phone (Amazon.com). Toyota, Honda, Fiat Chrysler and other manufacturers will have to recall millions of vehicles worldwide because of a malfunction in airbags that do not always activate. Intel has appointed Omar Ishrak, future ex-CEO of Medtronic, as chairman of the board. Mitsubishi Motors crashed in Tokyo this morning after the announcement of a search in Germany in the dieselgate case. Brazilian Vale, German certification company Tuv Sud and 16 executives were charged with homicide in the investigation into the deadly breach of the Brumadinho mining dam in Brazil in 2018. Cruise, the autonomous vehicle division of General Motors, is presenting a driverless prototype for shared driving.  The boss of J Sainsbury will hand over the business in May.
