Shares in Toronto rose modestly Thursday mid-trading, the penultimate trading day of 2021. In the session, most sectors were up, with declines only in energy and industrial services. GoGold Resources Inc. shares rose after the company said it expects to be well positioned to generate value growth for shareholders in 2022 as it focuses on its Los Ricos project in Mexico.

Canada's S&P/TSX Composite Index was up 0.22% at 21391.29 and the blue-chip S&P/TSX 60 rose 0.16% to 1298.47.

Shares in GoGold Resources Inc. rose 1.7% to C$3.08 after it said it has an aggressive exploration program planned for the Los Ricos project in 2022, and that it expects to have an updated mineral resource estimate by year's end.

Other market movers:

Great Panther Mining Ltd. shares fell 6.9% to C$0.27 after it said that it would file a defense against three notices of infraction and appeal fines imposed by a Brazilian environmental regulator regarding a fish-mortality event near the mine site of its Brazilian subsidiary.
