Shares in Toronto were slightly higher in midday trading Wednesday as gains in process industries and technology services outweighed losses in retail and consumer non-durables. Meanwhile, shares in convenience store operator Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc. fell after reporting a lower second-quarter profit despite higher revenue.

Canada's S&P/TSX Composite Index was up 0.24% to 21506.05 and the blue-chip S&P/TSX 60 was up 0.23% at 1299.45.

Shares in Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc. fell 6.2% to C$47.40 after reporting Tuesday after the market closed that earnings 65 cents a share for the 12 weeks ended Oct. 10, down from 68 cents in the comparable quarter a year earlier. Total revenue rose to $14.22 billion from $10.66 billion.

Other market movers:

Shares in Lucara Diamond Corp. fell 3.1% to C$0.63 in early trading Wednesday after the company set production and cost estimates for its Botswana mine in 2022, expecting diamond revenue at its Karowe mine to be between $185 million and $215 million based on sales of 300,000 to 340,000 carats.

Redline Communications Group Inc. rose 19% to C$0.76 after announcing that it was selected to provide high-speed, wireless broadband service solutions for an unnamed large telecommunications-service provider in the Middle East.
