Sept 17 (Reuters) - Canada's main stock index opened lower on Friday, weighed by weakness in energy and mining stocks, as investors remained cautious ahead of next week's federal election.

* At 9:32 a.m. ET (1332 GMT), the Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index was down 46.11 points, or 0.22%, at 20,555.99.
