The FT says Nissan is in talks to make batteries at its car plant in Sunderland, northern England.
But the talks reportedly hinge on energy costs.
Ford is reportedly talking about making batteries in the UK for use in an electric version of its Transit van.
For LG and Samsung any move is said to be dependent on them striking deals with major carmakers.
The firms mentioned in the report either wouldn't comment, or said that they had nothing to announce at this time.
