STORY: "We can't just let this happen and not say anything."

Newark, New Jersey, Mayor Ras Baraka demanded answers on Friday, after agents from immigration and customs enforcement or ICE rounded up undocumented migrants as well as American citizens in a raid of this seafood distributor and retailer, according to media reports.

Baraka said the raid involved detaining a military veteran and violations of the people's rights.

"Some ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement) agents raided a business in our city without a warrant. They went in the back of the establishment. We believe that there were three people who they say were undocumented, that they detained, but they also detained folks that were, in fact, citizens of this country. One person showed their military veteran identification and was still questioned anyway. People were fingerprinted. Pictures of their IDs and face were taken."

"The problem with this is that none of these people were rapists or murderers or criminals. The problem with it is that ICE went in there without a warrant."

The raid in New Jersey follows President Donald Trump's pledge to deport millions of immigrants who are in the U.S. illegally.

Trump issued a raft of executive orders after taking office that aim to clamp down on illegal immigration and has taken steps to punish officials who resist enforcement of his sweeping crackdown.

Baraka: "It's a slippery slope when we think it's okay to suspend the Constitution of the United States in order to make a political point or statement. That ICE response in their letter that they put out, they say, well, in a very cavalier way, these things happen. There will be some citizens who are going to ask for their I.D."

In a statement, an ICE spokesperson said that agents may encounter U.S. citizens while doing their work and may request identification to confirm someone's identity as was the case in Newark.

The spokesperson also said that ICE was investigating the incident.
