Shares of power producers rose slightly as traders rotated into defensive sectors.

Italian energy company ENI launched a carbon capture project in the U.K.

German companies including the chemical producer BASF and the bailed-out utility Uniper have held talks in recent weeks with America's liquefied natural gas exporters and others about potential gas-supply deals likely beginning after mid-decade, The Wall Street Journal reported.
