Volkswagen has a China sales target for ID. series electric vehicles of between 80,000 and 100,000 this year, depending on chip deliveries, and is sticking with that forecast, a company spokesperson told Reuters.

Volkswagen is making and selling ID.4 and ID.6 electric sport-utility vehicles at two Chinese joint ventures. It will also roll out ID.3 cars later this year.

Company sources told Reuters in June that Volkswagen's ID. series - the backbone of its EV ambitions to overtake Tesla Inc in 2025 - is off to a worryingly slow start in China.

Volkswagen Chief Executive Herbert Diess said last month it must change its approach to how it sells EV in China.

Local EV rival Nio Inc delivered a total of 7,931 vehicles in July, while Xpeng Inc sold 8,040 cars.
