HANOI, Aug 8 (Reuters) - Vietnam registered a trade surplus of $1.08 billion in the first seven months of this year, government customs data released on Monday showed.

Exports in the January-July period rose 16.6% from a year earlier to $217.34 billion, while imports were up 14.0% at $216.26 billion, the Customs Department said in a report.

In July, the country's exports fell 6.8% from June to $30.61 billion, while imports fell 5.3% to $30.53 billion, the department said. (Reporting by Khanh Vu; Editing by Kanupriya Kapoor)
