Wildfires rip through Europe amid scorching heatwave

STORY: More than 30 wildfires continued to ravage parts of Spain, numerous wildfires were reported in Italy and firefighters in southwestern France battled to contain massive forest fires.

Smoke also rose over the horizon in London, and Athens hillsides were ablaze.

With human-caused climate change triggering droughts, the number of extreme wildfires is expected to increase 30% within the next 28 years, according to a February 2022 United Nations report.
