Lucid presented a two-seater robotaxi concept without a steering wheel or pedals during its investor day, while announcing the launch of a monthly subscription for its autonomous driving technologies. This service will be offered between $69 and $199 per month, depending on the level of functionality chosen by users. The company thus joins other manufacturers like Tesla and Rivian that are developing similar offerings based on recurring software revenue.

Lucid's robotaxi concept follows an industry trend toward fully autonomous vehicles intended for mobility services. It notably recalls Tesla's Cybercab, also designed without a steering wheel and pedals, and operating with the Full Self-Driving system. Tesla recently announced that the first Cybercab had rolled off the production line at its Texas Gigafactory, with mass production scheduled to launch in April.

Automakers are increasingly seeking to diversify their revenue streams beyond vehicle sales. Tesla recently moved away from the permanent sale of its Full Self-Driving feature in favor of a $99 monthly subscription, while Rivian offers its Autonomy+ system at $49.99 per month or $2,500 as a one-time purchase. Lucid hopes to strengthen its competitiveness in an increasingly crowded electric and autonomous market.
