Deutsche Lufthansa said it is upgrading its long-haul fleet with an order of 20 planes from Boeing and Airbus that have a total list price of $7.7 billion.
The German carrier group said late Monday that its supervisory board approved an order for 10 Airbus A350-900s and 10 Boeing 787-9s, with delivery scheduled between 2032 and 2034. Buyers typically receive significant discounts to the list price in such deals.
The company said its executive board had previously decided to place the order, which is to replace older and less efficient models with new jets.
"The state-of-the-art Airbus A350 and Boeing 787 are more fuel-efficient, quieter, and have lower emissions than their respective predecessors," Deutsche Lufthansa Chief Executive Carsten Spohr said. "We are thus continuing the largest fleet modernization in our history."
Lufthansa said it has an order list of 232 aircraft, including the latest order.
