Magyar Telekom announced that it has won the tender in a total of 29 districts in the Gigabit Hungary subsidy program. The Hungarian State has announced a tender in the framework of the Gigabit Hungary Program in July 2025 for the roll-out of fiber networks to areas where gigabit network coverage is not yet available. The aim of the tender is to ensure the gigabit network coverage for ca 600 thousand currently not covered access points in all the 174 districts of Hungary (with the exception of Budapest) with the use of financing from European Union funds.
During the first phase 110 districts were the tendered, whilst decision was reached with regards to 88 districts. The Company was the winning bidder in 29 of these, gaining approximately HUF 13.5 billion subsidy for gigabit-capable broadband network build, enabling a fiber access roll-out in these areas at a ca 73% subsidy level.
