Producers of metals, grains and other raw materials rose ahead of jobs data.

Gold futures closed at $5,003.80 an ounce ahead of a jobs report that could cause big moves in the U.S. dollar.

Silver futures fell 2% to $80.22 an ounce and are now more than 30% from their recent highs.

The U.S. dollar is trading near multiyear lows against a basket of rivals, accentuating one key trend that sparked the precious metals rally.
