Metaplanet Inc. (the "Company") announced that its Board of Directors has resolved to establish a new wholly-owned subsidiary, Metaplanet Ventures K.K., for the purpose of strategic investment in the Bitcoin ecosystem and related infrastructure. Metaplanet Ventures K.K. will be established to help close that gap. The subsidiary's mandate is to fund, incubate, and scale companies building regulated Bitcoin financial infrastructure, with a primary focus on strengthening Japan's domestic ecosystem and its international competitiveness in digital finance.
Metaplanet Ventures will operate across three programs. The first is a venture investment arm targeting seed through growth stage companies building Bitcoin financial infrastructure across lending and collateral, payments and Lightning, stablecoin technology and settlement, options and derivatives markets, custody, compliance technology, tokenization, and investment product tooling. The focus is Japan first, with a selective global mandate to bring world class technology and talent into the Japanese market. The second is an incubator program for early stage Bitcoin and digital asset infrastructure companies in Japan, providing seed capital and direct access to the Company's distribution channels, platforms, media, and investor network.
The program is designed to support domestic entrepreneurship in digital finance and to help ensure that critical financial infrastructure is developed within Japan's regulatory framework. Companies with strong strategic alignment may be acquired or integrated into the Metaplanet group. Others will be supported in scaling independently.
The third is a grants program for Bitcoin open source developers, educators, researchers, and community organizers in Japan. The program aims to strengthen the technical talent base and public understanding of digital assets in Japan, contributing to the long term health of the domestic ecosystem. The total investment over the next two to three years is expected to be approximately JPY 4,000 million and will be funded by cash flows generated from the Company?s Bitcoin income business.
