The trading session at Piazza Affari opened flat once again today, marking the final session before the extended Christmas holiday break.

Tokyo and Wall Street both performed well overnight.

On the macroeconomic front, several key data releases from the United States are expected today: at 14:00, the 'advance' reading of GDP is anticipated, with consensus from Reuters forecasting an annualized rate of 3.3% following the 3.8% recorded in the second quarter. Later, at 16:00, the December consumer confidence index will be released, expected at 91.

Around 9:30, the Ftse Mib index was up by a modest 0.18%.

The defense sector performed well, standing out as a top performer in 2025, with LEONARDO rising by 1.2% and FINCANTIERI up by 2.1%.

Banks also held steady, with the sector index increasing by 0.3%, supported by major players UNICREDIT and INTESA, both up by 0.30%.

STELLANTIS also attracted buying interest, climbing 1.2% as the stock attempted a rebound after five consecutive negative sessions, especially after yesterday's 4.6% drop.

Ordinary TIM shares remained flat at 0.51 euro, while savings shares slipped by 0.4% to 0.62 euro, maintaining a spread of around 0.11 euro, roughly equal to the cash amount proposed by the telecom company's board for the conversion of savings shares into ordinary shares.

SAIPEM retraced by 1.1% after yesterday's rally.

Outside the main index, DOVALUE was well supported, rising 2.9%, and OFFICINA STELLARE gained 4.5% after securing a three-year contract to supply high-resolution optical systems for telescopes to Leonardo, with a total value of approximately 9.2 million euro.
