BERLIN (dpa-AFX) - The number of new electric cars in Germany rose again in February. According to the Federal Motor Transport Authority, 46,275 newly registered vehicles last month were battery-powered. This represented an increase of nearly 29 percent compared to the same month last year. The share of all new registrations in February, as in the previous month, was around 22 percent.

However, despite government subsidies and tax incentives for electric cars, mobility expert Constantin Gall from the consulting firm EY considers the development to be restrained. "Germany is spending billions to accelerate the ramp-up of e-mobility, but buyers remain hesitant," he stated. "The fact that sales of electric cars in Germany did not increase more sharply in February could also be related to ongoing uncertainties regarding the new government subsidies for electric vehicles."

Overall, the new car business in Germany grew only slightly in February. According to the KBA, 211,262 passenger cars were registered, which was 3.8 percent more compared to the same month last year. More than two-thirds of the registrations were commercial, the rest private./maa/DP/stw
