(Alliance News) - Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena Spa announced on Monday that it has initiated preliminary assessments regarding a potential merger proposal received from Banco BPM Spa and the voluntary public exchange offer launched by Intesa Sanpaolo Spa.
The bank specified that it will proceed with the evaluation of the unsolicited proposal from Banco BPM and the hostile exchange offer promoted by Intesa Sanpaolo.
Monte dei Paschi also confirmed that integration activities with Mediobanca are proceeding in line with previous announcements.
On Monday, Intesa Sanpaolo closed down 1.4% at EUR5.60 per share, Banco BPM rose 0.8% to EUR13.32 per share, while MPS closed up 13% at EUR10.10 per share.
