(Alliance News) - Final adjustments are being made to the list of 11 candidates for the new Mediobanca board of directors, which will be voted on October 28. The board will be led by Chairman Vittorio Grilli and CEO Alessandro Melzi d'Eril.
As reported by Corriere della Sera on Friday, the list includes prominent figures such as Tiziana Togna, formerly of Consob, Federica Minozzi from Iris Ceramica, Ines Gandini from Acea, Paolo Gallo of Italgas, Andrea Zappia from Sky, Massimo Lapucci from Luiss and formerly of Fondazione CRT, and Sandro Panizza, the only outgoing board member confirmed for a new term. The list also features two managers from MPS, but no representatives from the Siena leadership.
The new board will take office on October 29, while CEO Luigi Lovaglio will begin work on the integration between MPS and Mediobanca. Meanwhile, rating agency DBRS has upgraded Mediobanca's rating to 'BBB'.
Lovaglio, speaking on a Bloomberg podcast, described the deal with Siena as "the beginning of a new phase of consolidation," a crucial step for the competitiveness of the Italian and European banking sector.
