National Aluminium Company Limited announced that Dr. Veena Kumari Dermal, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Mines (DIN: 08890469), is appointed as Part-time Official Director on the Board of NALCO vice Shri Sanjay Lohiya, IAS, the then Additional Secretary, Ministry of Mines, with immediate effect vide Order dated May 4, 2026, of Ministry of Mines, Government of India. Dr. Veena Kumari Dermal is an Indian Postal Service (IPoS) officer of 1998 batch and a seasoned administrator. Prior to her appointment as Additional Secretary in Ministry of Mines, Dr. Veena Kumari Dermal was serving as the Chief Postmaster General of the Telangana Circle.

Dr. Veena Kumari Dermal has done B.Sc. (Agriculture) and M.Sc. (Horticulture) from Kerala Agriculture University.

Further, she did Ph.D. in Horticulture from Indian Agricultural Research Institute in New Delhi. She has done Post Graduate Diploma in Public Policy from IIM, Bengaluru. She has undergone various short-term courses at the National and International level.

Dr. Dermal has more than 27 years of experience in technology transformation, postal administration and served as Joint Secretary earlier in the Ministry of Mines focusing on Mineral Policy and critical minerals. She was also the Administering Authority for Offshore Mining in the Ministry of Mines and Designated Authority for auction of critical minerals on behalf of Government of India. She was the chairperson of the Committee which identified the Critical and Strategic Minerals for India.

During her earlier tenure in the Ministry of Mines, she was instrumental in the amendments to the MMDR Act as well as OAMDR Act and various Rules under these Acts. She has deep understanding of mineral policy in India.
