Telecom equipment maker Nokia has won a UK appeal, halting patent litigation brought by Taiwanese firms Acer and Asus regarding video coding technology, Reuters reports.

The companies had previously secured a High Court ruling for an interim license agreement pending the court's determination of fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory (FRAND) terms for patent licensing. However, the Court of Appeal overturned the decision, effectively ending the proceedings in London.

The court cited the fact that Nokia had already offered licenses on terms to be determined through arbitration. A trial scheduled for June and July has now been canceled.

The dispute is part of a broader global conflict regarding so-called FRAND terms within the telecommunications sector.
