Danish pharmaceutical giant Novo Nordisk is set to present new data on semaglutide for the treatment of MASH at the EASL 2026 liver congress in Barcelona. MASH is a severe form of fatty liver disease estimated to affect approximately 250 million people worldwide.

In a recent release, the company highlighted new analyses from the Essence Phase III program, where semaglutide demonstrated positive effects on liver inflammation and fibrosis. New data also points to a favorable safety profile, as well as positive outcomes for postmenopausal women and Japanese patients, according to the report.

Novo Nordisk describes MASH as significantly underdiagnosed, with an estimated nine out of ten cases globally remaining undetected.

MASH stands for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis.
