Novo Nordisk, the pharmaceutical giant specializing in diabetes and obesity treatments, has presented new data for its oral obesity medication, Wegovy, at the ECO2026 obesity congress in Istanbul.

Data from the Phase 3 OASIS 4 trial reveals that nearly one-third of patients who responded early to the oral Wegovy treatment achieved an average weight loss of 13.2 percent after 16 weeks and 21.6 percent after 64 weeks. Meanwhile, patients not classified as early responders achieved a weight loss of 11.5 percent by the end of the study.

Separate analyses also indicate that nearly eight out of ten patients with impaired physical function experienced clinically meaningful improvements in mobility compared to the placebo group.

The company further stated that oral Wegovy delivered superior weight loss and a lower probability of treatment discontinuation due to adverse effects compared to Eli Lilly's rival drug, orforglipron, based on indirect comparisons and patient studies.

Primary data from OASIS 4 previously showed an average weight loss of 17 percent for Wegovy, compared to 2.7 percent for the placebo group.
