FRANKFURT (dpa-AFX) - Numerous flights were cancelled at Frankfurt Airport this morning due to snowfall and warnings of icy conditions. Of the 1,052 flights scheduled throughout the day, 98 have been cancelled, according to a spokesperson for airport operator Fraport, speaking to Deutsche Presse-Agentur. The spokesperson added that this number could increase as the day progresses.

The airport began the day with a "tense winter operation," anticipating significant disruptions. The large winter service team is actively deployed, and the runways also require clearing. On the aircraft parking positions, 34 vehicles are currently in use for de-icing the planes.

Passengers are strongly urged to check their flight status before travelling and to allow extra time for their journey to the airport, taking current weather conditions into account. Additionally, they should arrive at least three hours before departure at the terminal in Frankfurt, the spokesperson advised. The German Weather Service has issued a severe weather warning for icy conditions in parts of Hesse for the day./csc/DP/zb
