STUTTGART (dpa-AFX) - Stuttgart Airport is recovering only slowly from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to preliminary calculations, around 9.6 million passengers were counted last year, as airport director Ulrich Heppe told the "Stuttgarter Nachrichten" and the "Stuttgarter Zeitung." In 2024, there were 9.1 million travelers. According to a spokesperson, the exact figures are expected to be published in the coming days.
Heppe further stated that, due to the challenging economic situation in Baden-Württemberg, a slight decline to 9.4 million passengers is expected this year. Before the pandemic, more than 12.7 million people departed from or landed in Stuttgart. "We are an important factor for the economy. There are many companies that have settled in the Stuttgart region because the airport is so close by. Of course, we are also noticing the stagnating economy in the country in the demand for business travel. At the moment, the tourist market is therefore particularly important for us."/ols/DP/men
