Del Fante, who has been at the helm of Poste since 2017 and whose third term expires in April, will receive another three-year mandate from the government to lead the state-controlled group, the sources said.
Poste declined to comment.
The company, which employs over 120,000 people and is Italy's largest employer, has expanded its business beyond traditional postal and parcel delivery services to offer insurance, payments, asset management, energy supply, and telephony services.
Under Del Fante's leadership, Poste has more than tripled its profits and market value, establishing itself as Italy's leading logistics operator, bolstered by the e-commerce boom.
Last year, the CEO also guided the group's entry into the former telephone monopolist Telecom Italia (Tim), becoming its largest shareholder and paving the way for a series of partnerships, most notably in the cloud sector.
The Italian Treasury directly holds a 29.3% stake in the postal service, while another 35% stake is held through Cassa Depositi e Prestiti.
