(Alliance News) - Edison Spa announced Thursday that it has received notification from QatarEnergy of a force majeure event, specifically the suspension of activities due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

The Qatari company informed Edison that it will not be able to fulfill its contractual obligations regarding certain LNG shipments scheduled from the beginning of April. At this time, it is expected that five LNG cargoes will be affected, while deliveries scheduled for March are not impacted by this communication.

Edison further clarified that it "does not anticipate any impact on its end customers, thanks to mitigation actions and ongoing as well as already activated portfolio management activities."

"Edison continues to closely monitor the situation and will promptly provide updates should any further relevant information arise. Edison has a long-term contract with QatarEnergy for the supply of 6.4 billion cubic meters of gas per year to Italy. The contract, which began in 2009, has a total duration of 25 years."

Edison's savings shares closed Thursday down 0.2% at EUR2.21 per share.
