STORY: Russia and Ukraine confirmed they had agreed to a three-day ceasefire that was announced by U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the ceasefire would run from May 9 to May 11 and that each country would exchange 1,000 prisoners of war.

The ceasefire coincides with Victory Day in Russia, a holiday that commemorates the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany in World War Two.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, writing on Telegram, said the latest ceasefire had been arranged as part of U.S. negotiating efforts to end the more than four year war... and that humanitarian issues remained a key priority.

In Ukrainian government video, Zelenskiy was seen visiting the frontline in southeast Ukraine.

In another video on Friday, Zelenskiy accused Russia of violating its own ceasefire, saying Moscow began the day by shelling the front line... adding (quote) "Tomorrow depends on what we hear today."

But he said Ukrainian weapons would not target Russia's Red Square on Saturday, when Russia will hold its Victory Day parade.

Russia has warned that any attempt by Ukraine to disrupt the parade would trigger a massive missile strike on Kyiv.

Both Kyiv and Moscow have accused the other of violating ceasefires declared separately this week.
