ESSEN (dpa-AFX) - Amid ongoing debates about the future of the energy system, RWE CEO Markus Krebber has emphasized the crucial role of power grids. "It is increasingly apparent that grid expansion is becoming a bottleneck," Krebber stated at the E-world energy trade fair in Essen.
Currently, new data centers and generation capacities are suffering from the same network bottlenecks and lengthy connection times. Expansion must continue. Rapid and cost-efficient grid expansion is the key to future viability. The Essen-based energy group is focused on power generation from renewable sources and energy trading.
Slower Expansion Would Have "Zero Impact"
However, if the expansion of renewables in Germany were to slow significantly, this would, according to Krebber, have "zero impact" on RWE. "We operate globally. We have more projects we could build than we can finance. In that case, we would simply build more in other parts of the world."
RWE invests where investment conditions are favorable. "We would also prefer to continue investing here, but for the company, it would have no impact."
At the three-day E-world trade fair in Essen, running until Thursday, more than 1,100 exhibitors from the energy sector across 33 countries are showcasing their products and services related to the energy transition. Participants include energy suppliers, industrial companies, consultancies, research institutions, associations, and IT providers./tob/DP/mis
