Defense contractor Saab has launched the Barracuda Poncho, a new camouflage garment designed to reduce the risk of detection by adversary sensors across multiple environments.

Weighing just over one kilogram, the poncho is reversible with two configurations for night and daylight operations. According to Saab, it provides protection against both visual and thermal sensors, while the arctic version also offers shielding against UV sensors.

Henning Robach, head of Saab's Barracuda business unit, stated that the product was developed in response to the increasing prevalence of drone surveillance on the battlefield, which leaves soldiers more vulnerable when not protected by camouflage netting or vehicles.

No financial details regarding the initiative were disclosed.
