Safran and MBDA, a missile-production joint venture between Airbus, Leonardo and BAE Systems, said they had entered the final phase of negotiations for a contract with the French defense procurement agency to deploy a new artillery system.
The companies said the Thundart, as the new system is known, would significantly boost land strike capabilities for the French armed forces with precision strikes of up to 150 kilometers. The system is set to succeed the current Lance-Roquettes Unitaire.
The groups said the Thundart could be operational as early as 2030.
