FRANKFURT (dpa-AFX) - Germany's largest software group SAP and hospital operator Fresenius are further expanding their strategic AI partnership. The two corporations announced on Wednesday that they are jointly investing in Avelios Medical, a developer of next-generation cloud-based hospital information systems.

The companies announced their partnership in January, stating at the time their intention to jointly advance artificial intelligence (AI) in the healthcare sector. They had indicated a medium-term investment target in the mid-triple-digit million range.

'With our stake in Avelios Medical, we are taking a further step in building a digital healthcare ecosystem - interoperable, reliable, and AI-ready,' said Christian Pawlu, Chief Operating Officer at Helios, the Fresenius hospital division.

According to the statement, Avelios Medical is developing a modular hospital information system (HIS) that digitizes clinical and administrative processes end-to-end and is built on open standards. This creates a scalable platform that reduces the burden on care teams, harmonizes processes, and brings innovation more rapidly into daily clinical practice, the companies said./tav/stk
