Siemens said it won an order worth around 3 billion euros ($3.53 billion) to supply hundreds of trains to Copenhagen's suburban rail network.

A consortium that groups Siemens Mobility alongside Switzerland's Stadler Rail was awarded the contract by the Danish State Railways, the German conglomerate said Friday. Under the terms, the consortium will deliver 226 automated trainsets to the S-Bane network, with an option for a further 100 trains, Siemens said.

Siemens Mobility will deliver the electrical equipments and control systems, among other elements, while Stadler will provide couplings, interiors, seats, air conditioning and doors, and will handle the trains' final assembly.

The first vehicles will be ready to use on the Copenhagen network by 2032, with the delivery period extending to 2040, Siemens said.
