AMBERG (dpa-AFX) - Siemens plans to invest around 200 million euros to build a new factory for its Smart Infrastructure division at its Amberg site. According to the company, the goal is to meet the rising demand for high-tech electronic products and to drive digital transformation. The new facility is scheduled for completion in 2030. Additional investments are planned for modernizing and decarbonizing the site, meaning a transition to a less climate-damaging energy supply.
"This investment is a clear commitment to the site. And it represents an additional growth impulse for Siemens in Germany, going beyond the investment pledges already made under the 'Made for Germany' initiative," said Roland Busch, CEO of Siemens AG. With this move, the company aims to strengthen its competitiveness and create future-proof jobs.
AI in Production
According to Siemens, the new factory will feature a self-learning, autonomous, and flexible production system, partially controlled by Artificial Intelligence. The AI will be fed with real-time data to coordinate and continuously optimize order planning and fulfillment, material transport, and plant control. This will not only make operations more efficient and sustainable, but also more flexible—for example, enabling faster responses to new market developments./fuw/DP/stw
