Stellantis will wind down vehicle production at its Poissy plant near Paris as it scales back European manufacturing capacity, but said the factory will remain open as it unveiled plans to repurpose the site.
The Jeep maker said Thursday it will invest 100 million euros ($118 million) to retool the site for auto parts production and recycling.
"The site will not close," Stellantis said in a statement. "It will have a sustainable industrial future."
The company currently assembles the Opel Mokka and DS 3 models at Poissy, with production continuing through at least the end of 2028. It will then switch to the new activities which are expected to be fully operational by 2030.
Around 1,600 workers currently work onsite at Poissy, which will drop to around 1,200 when the plant is repurposed. Headcount reductions will be managed through natural attrition or individual voluntary measures.
"In an automotive industry undergoing profound transformation, this project, co-designed with the social partners, ensures a sustainable future for the Poissy industrial site, built around activities clearly focused on the future," said Xavier Chereau, chief human resources and sustainability officer at Stellantis.
