Sylvamo Corp. announced that John Sims is now part of the paper company's board of directors effective January 1, 2026. That is the same date Sims begins his tenure as Sylvamo CEO.
He currently serves as the company's COO. Sims is succeeding current CEO and chairman Jean-Michel Ribiéras who is retiring on December 31, 2025. Sims began his role as COO with Sylvamo in May.
He was Sylvamo's first SVP and CFO, as part of its 2021 spin-off from International Paper. He spent 27 years at IP where he held several key posts, including VP and general manager, North American Papers; SVP and president, Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Russia; and SVP of corporate development. He also previously served on the Confederation of European Paper Industries board from 2016 to 2019.
Sims holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy and an MBA from the University of Michigan.
