Norway's largest public transport operator, Sporveien, is beginning the rollout of a new digital signaling system for the Oslo subway, where commercial mobile networks are used instead of Wi-Fi.

Telia will be a key partner with its mobile network when the Siemens-developed CBTC system connects trains, track equipment, and traffic management, which, according to the companies, will result in lower costs and higher safety, reliability, and performance requirements around the clock.

The launch will first take place on line 4 between Brattlikollen and Bergkrystallen, with full implementation planned for 2030.

Telia's acting head of Norway, Morten Karlsen Sørby, points out that only the New York subway currently uses a similar mobile network-based solution.
