Airbus, Leonardo and Thales plan to combine their space activities into a new company aimed at strengthening Europe's strategic autonomy in space.

The company--combining the partners' satellite and space systems manufacturing and space services--will employ around 25,000 people and have an annual turnover of about 6.5 billion euros, equivalent to $7.55 billion, the companies said Thursday.

Airbus, Leonardo and Thales will own 35%, 32.5% and 32.5% stakes respectively, and have joint control. They expect the new company to be operational in 2027.
