Thermo Fisher Scientific's number-two executive, Michel Lagarde, is leaving the life-sciences giant to pursue another opportunity.
Thermo Fisher on Monday said Lagarde, who has been executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Waltham, Mass., company since 2021, will depart at the end of March.
Lagarde joined Thermo Fisher as part of its $5.2 billion acquisition of Patheon in 2017.
Thermo Fisher said Gianluca Pettiti, an executive vice president since 2021, will be become president and chief operating officer, effective March 1. Pettiti joined the company through the acquisition of Life Technologies in 2014.
Marc Casper, who is ceding the president post to Pettiti, will remain chairman and chief executive, the company said.
Thermo Fisher added that Frederick Lowery, who joined the company in 2005 and has been executive vice president and president of laboratory products and bio-production in April 2024, is also leaving to pursue another opportunity.
The company said Michael Shafer, who has been executive vice president and president of biopharma services since April 2024, will take on an expanded role and will report directly to Casper.
